The Top 10 Sustainable Mother’s Day Gifts

We have put together the ultimate guide for finding the perfect Mother’s Day sustainable gifts. Whether your mum is an eco-warrior and wants a green gift which doesn’t harm our planet, or perhaps you’re trying to be a little more conscious this year - we are sure you’ll find something in this guide.

Celebrate Mother’s Day whilst protecting the Earth for generations of mothers to come.

1. Spring bulbs

With Mother’s Day falling only seven days into spring - what better gift than spring bulbs?

Spring bulbs can include English Bluebells, Daffodils or Tulips.

Consider checking if your local garden centre has any - buying locally is a great way to keep the carbon footprint of your gift as low as possible.

And if your mum isn’t a keen gardener but enjoys a beautiful garden, wildflower seeds make a great, low-maintenance alternative to spring bulbs.

2. Essential Oils

Whether your mum would enjoy using essential oils to put in her beauty products, cleaning products or aromatherapy - essential oils are a wonderful gift.

Peace with the Wild has a huge range of organic essential oils which are 100% pure, natural, vegan and cruelty-free.

3. Carbon Offset Gift

What better way to honour your mum than to plant 48 trees in her name? Reduce her carbon footprint to zero this Mother’s Day while protecting the future for generations of mothers to come.

This Carbon Offset Gift comes with a personalised digital certificate and information on the positive Earth-friendly impact your giftee creates. Every £1 spent on this gift creates at least £60 in environmental and social value. Good for your mum, and good for the planet!

4. Online Classes

Some of the most sustainable gifts will often be one in which no physical product was brought. With this in mind, why not buy your online class this Mother’s Day? Perhaps she wants to learn how to cook, write a book or direct a film.

We recommend checking Masterclass, a hub of online classes taught by many celebrities and world-class experts.

5. Zero waste toiletries

Zero waste soap and shampoo bars are better for the planet than usual toiletries as they are plastic-free.

As well as this, they also:

🚿 Last twice as long as normal bottles (making them more economical)

🚿 Use less water

🚿 Have a smaller carbon footprint

Sage Folk is a wonderful website to find a wide range of plastic-free toiletries which are more sustainable, reusable and lower in waste than those you might find on the high street.

6. Jewellery

Jewellery is often a wonderful gift to give to a loved one, however, it isn’t always considered a sustainable gift. We recommend searching Etsy for some beautiful, independently crafted jewellery.

GemweythSeaGlass has an entire array of beautiful sustainable, recycled rings and bracelets.

7. Scented Candles

Scented candles are a wonderful gift and can be a beautiful gift for a home. Not all candles would be considered sustainable, however.

When searching for sustainable candles, we recommend you try to check for the following:

  • fully recycled (FSC) packaging

  • natural wax (soy, rapeseed, coconut, etc.)

  • natural fragrance

  • a recyclable or up-cycled candle holder

Our favourite current sustainable candle is Sleep Well Wellbeing Ritual Candle & Refill. The 220g soy candle comes in a recyclable glass jar as well as a matching candle refill. It is made of an all-natural blend of Palmarosa, Lavender and Ylang-Ylang.

8. Eco-Friendly Pamper Hamper

Described as a “little box of love” this eco-friendly, vegan, pamper hamper from Little Box of Love on Etsy uses no single-use plastic and sources all of its goods from UK sustainable businesses. This box includes a shea butter soap bar, exfoliating sugar scrub, lavender pouch and more!

9. Handmade gifts

There is often no greater token of love than something which has taken time and energy to create. Perhaps you could celebrate Mother’s Day with these photo flower pots or a handmade card with a personalised message. With just a small amount of effort, a beautiful, sustainable gift can be made.

10. Vouchers

If you are still struggling with an idea, our final recommendation is a store voucher. This way you will not be purchasing gifts that are going to simply end up landfill, but contributing to a gift that they really do want.

We recommend a voucher from Ethical Shop which sells a huge amount of ethical goods including soap, cosmetic cases and hand cream.
